Man oh man, do I have a lot to share on here. A month ago, we went to South Africa with Dave’s parents, Daniel and Daniel’s friend, Robert. We mostly stayed in and around Cape Town. It’s a beautiful city that has a unique blend of Western and African culture. On the first day we hiked to the top of Lion’s head, visited the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, and took the cableway to the top of Table Mountain. I’ll save going to the top of Table Mountain for another post because it deserves it’s own. Going to a geographically high point on the first day to get a good scope of the area is always one of my favorite things.
It was my first time going somewhere where they drive on the left side of the road. Dave did a lot of the driving and he really surprised me with how easy it was for him. I was still kinda confused by the end of the trip – ha! It was also the loooooongest plane ride. It is pretty much as close as you can get from the opposite side of the globe from Utah (the anitpode is what it’s called, I believe..?).
One highlight of the long flight was seeing the northern lights. I saw them from the plane going to Amsterdam two years ago, but not nearly as well. I hope one day I can see them from the ground and get a really nice shot of them, but this will do for now.
This is the view from the house we stayed in. It was near the beach, but it was too cold to swim in the water. South Africa has been in a major drought, but when we were there, it rained. Kinda sucked for us, but I was happy they were receiving rain.
It felt so nice to move around and go on a hike after traveling there. We hiked to the top of Lion’s Head.
We went down to touch the beach after the hike and Dave accidentally got his shoes wet. We were talking about how crazy it was how less than an hour ago we were on the top of Lion’s Head^
