I can’t believe it’s been over a month since we went to Mexico and I’m just finally sitting down to write about it. Lately, my life has been about as busy as I can take.
For about a year we have been saying/hoping we would go to Spain in April 2018. We have been budgeting and saving up for a long time, but then one day I saw incredible flight deals to Mexico City and mentioned to Dave how cool it would be to go for a few days and visit where he used to live when he was serving an LDS mission. He served in an area just south of Mexico City. It didn’t take us long to talk ourselves into purchasing the plane tickets.. and then the Spain plane tickets for April a few weeks later…
I have been stressing out about how much money we are spending on traveling. I mean I know that money doesn’t matter.. doesn’t matter if you have a lot or a little. I know I live in an area and time where material things are all too abundant. But that’s where I psych myself out. If money doesn’t matter then should I just save it because I have all the essential things I could possible need? Or does it mean I should spend it because there is no point in saving it all up so I can have a lot later? I guess it’s finding a balance between saving for the future and living life to the fullest now.
Anyway…. didn’t mean to rant about that. Or make it seem like Mexico wasn’t fun or that I’m not excited for Spain. Because it was SO fun and I’m SO excited.
We flew into Mexico City and spent a couple days there, traveled south to visit Dave’s mission, then went back to Mexico City for a couple days before heading home. I’ll post Mexico City part one and two here and then I’ll post about our time visiting Dave’s mission in Acapulco tomorrow along with the video we made from our trip.
The very first thing we did when we got to Mexico City was see the Monumento a la Revolución. It felt like we were on our honeymoon again!

This was right out side of our Airbnb door. 
Visiting the Templo Mayor ruins was one of my favorite things we did in Mexico City. It was one of the Aztecs’ main temples. 
These last two shots above are particularly cool because it displays the history of Mexico City. When the Spanish came and conquered Mexico, they built their cathedral on top of the Aztec ruins. I’m still not sure if they meant to or if that was a coincidence..?
Not the best shot of Mexico’s “walking man,” but at least I got a shot of it. It’s hard to take while walking. 
This is where Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera used to live. I didn’t realize how famous Frida and Diego are in Mexico—they are even on some Mexican peso bills. It was also fun to go here after seeing Disney’s movie “Coco.” It seemed like a lovely place for two artists to live. 
We got some churros while waiting in line to go in. 
Dave was excited for me to try tacos al pastor. You can see in the picture above how they cook the meat on a vertical rotisserie with a pineapple on top. Then they thinly slice the meat and cut off some pineapple to go on the tacos.
It was amazing. I still like Cafe Rio, but this stuff was better. 
We rented a car for part two of our Mexico City trip. Dave was awesome driving like they do in Mexico City. With almost 9 million people in Mexico City, you can imagine the traffic. Especially when you aren’t quite sure how many lanes there are on the freeway. We drove to the floating gardens of Xochimilco. We read online that although it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s usually for a young/partying/drinking/touristy type crowd. The internet was right, plus we totally got screwed over. We overpaid and didn’t even get close to the amount of time we agreed upon with our boat driver. Oh well, I still had fun.
We went to Teotihuacan, which is now the ruins of a city thought to be established around 100 BC. It used to be one of the biggest cities in the world.
Dave is standing in front of the Pyramid of the Sun. It’s the 3rd largest pyramid in the world. 
There were so many people waiting in line to go to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun. We waited in line for about an hour!
Yeah, this was definitely worth the money:)!
