Twenty One

David’s a little sneak and got my friends together for my birthday without me knowing. I had a pretty regular day of work and once my dad got home I opened some gifts with my family and Dave. So, I haven’t had any soda in over ten years. Not even a sip. I can’t even remember why I decided to quit, but I’m pretty sure my-elementary-school-self didn’t expect to go this long without soda. But, about six months ago I was thinking out loud to Dave that i MIGHT have a drink of soda on my 21st birthday. I thought it would be funny because most people drink alcohol when they turn 21. Dave took it seriously and we talked about me drinking a coke on my birthday several times. So sure enough he bought us some bottles of Mexican coke. My family laughed and filmed as I about spit it out because I did not expect it to feel so fizzy and bubbly going down my throat. I haven’t had any soda since and, for the record, am still going to tell people that I haven’t had any soda since elementary school (even though in the back of my mind I will remember the one time I did).

After opening presents and trying to finish my whole bottle of coke, Dave drove me to Salt Lake. I had no idea where we were going, but once we got close to the Clark Planetarium I guessed that we were going to see an IMAX movie. Space and planets and galaxies have been a frequent conversation between us lately and I was so stoked to see the IMAX movie A Beautiful Planet. I would love to see it again actually because it was quite incredible. It left me wanting to go explore another Earth-like planet.

Next, Dave drove me to the Porcupine Grill and SURPRISE!!!!! my friends were there!! The older I get, the less often I get to see my friends and it was such an awesome gift to be able to chat with my friends on my birthday.

I can’t get over how nice it was of Dave to plan that. And for my friends for showing up.
